Jan'09 Functional Genomics & Data Analysis Workshop Report

Jan 8, 2009 - The Workshop is jointly hosted by this facility and the KU Applied Bioinformatics Laboratory. In total we received registrations from 41 researchers. But due to the number of seats available, we could only accommodate the first 25 registrants. Seats for the rest of our registrants are secured for our next workshop, which will be held in July '09.

Based on the Workshop evaluation questionnaires, the Workshop fairs pretty well. The following are the actual numbers (based on a scale of 1-5, with 1 as low/poor and 5 as high/excellent):

Content: 4.13 (Standard Deviation: 0.64)
Presentation: 4.13 (SD 0.72)
Arrangement (in terms of time and order of topics): 4.40 (SD 0.83)

Overall: 4.31 (SD 0.70)

We also received excellent comments and suggestions from workshop participants. We will consider them seriously in order to improve our future workshops.

Dr. Wang talks about recent developments in the genomics field.

Dr. Fang discusses the ins and outs of bioinformatics data analysis.

'08 Summer Functional Genomics & Data Analysis Workshop Report

July 17, 2008 - The Workshop has received enthusiastic responses from our genomics researchers and very good ratings from participants. A total of 47 researchers had sent their requests for registration. But due to space limitation, we accepted 28 registrants, of which 24 actually attended the workshop on Jul 9, 2008.

From the feedback we received from the returned evaluation questionnaires, the responses were very positive. All sixteen respondents said that the contents presented at the workshop met their expectations. On the question "Are the contents well presented and easy to follow?", all but one respondent answered "Yes". For the overall rating of the workshop on the scale of "Poor-Acceptable-Good-Excellent", nine respondents selected "Excellent" and seven "Good".

Similar workshops will be held in near future to accommodate the researchers on our current waiting list and other researchers who have expressed their interests. We will announce more details on the next upcoming workshop later.

This workshop is organized jointly by the Genomics Facility and the Applied Bioinformatics Laboratory at KU.

Dr. Xinkun ('Sequen') Wang lectures on microarray technology.

Dr. Jianwen Fang presents on bioinformatic analysis of genomics data.
